AUSTRALIANS HIT OUT AT BOWLING.

MATCH AGAINST COUNTY ENDS IN TAME DRAW. (United Pre**s Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) (Received July 9, 11 a.m.) LONDON, July S. The Australians drew with Notts. Though the tourists were 137 runs behind on the first innings the batsmen played the bowling confidently and scored at a fast rate. When the match was resumed Nottingham batted splendidly, Sam Staples raising 400 in 400 minutes, soon after the start. The weather was fine but dull, and the wicket was good. Voce cut and drove Wall to the boundary in one over. The pair brought the total to 426, passing England’s score in the second Test, which was previously the highest of the season against Australia. Hurwood taking his fifth wicket ended the innings. The Australians were 137 runs behind when Ponsford and Jackson opened. Both scored at a good rate from Larwood, but Voce succeeded in getting Ponsford when the total was 43. McCabe raised 50 after 35 minutes The steady rate of scoring continued and 100 took 72 minutes. Attacked Bowling. Both men then attacked the bowling and hit very hard, punishing Voce severely. McCabe was eventually caught afc mid-on after a slashing display*, having hit fourteen fours in an innings occupying 75 minutes. Jackson’s fifty took 105 minutes, the total being two for 165. With Kippax in, 200 was raised in 130 minutes. Jackson then gave an easy catch in slips after showing that he is at last finding form. In a sound attractive innings he hit seven fours.
