NOTES ON THE RACING. (Special to the “Star.’’) TRENTHAM. July 8. The Vittoria Hurdles provided a wretched exhibition of jumping Avro lost his rider at the first hurdle, and Zippor fell at the third to last, when he was just going to the front, while the trio that finished all fenced badly. Mountain Guide led for most ol the way, and beat Paris easily by three lengths, with Daylight a poor third Coon Song, from an inside position, led all the way in the Woburn Handicap. Portray was second on reaching the course proper, but Coon Song won decisively. Hunting Cali and Desert Song came strongly over the last turlong, the latter just missing third place. Wyeford led for a mile and a half in the Matai Hack Steeplechase. Hymestrason then took charge and won easily from Sir Moment, who outstayed Waitaunaha in the straight. Taramoa and Diamond Jack followed at intervals. Wyeford, Corneroff and High Heather fell, while Red Bank was pulled up, having broken a blood vessel. L. Matheson broke a collarbone when Zippor fell in the first race. Consent, a warm favourite for the Stewards’ Handicap, always was one of the leaders and won easily by two lengths from Paiko, who finished fast, beating Paddon by a length, with Hopwood a head away. Subdivision was well placed early. DISPUTE SETTLED. (Special to the “Star.”) TRENTHAM, July 8. It is reported that the Waikato Hunt Club will again receive the Labour Day date, and that the longstanding dispute with the Waikato Racing Club on this subject has been permanently settled by the Dates Committee of the Racing Conference.
