ROAD THROUGH KAIAPOI BEING RECONSTRUCTED

Reconstruction in concrete of the Main North Road through Kaiapoi was begun on Friday morning. A strip half the width of the road is being laid down on each side of the bridge for a distance of two chains. When completed, the concrete road will reach from the Kaiapoi golf links, north of the borough, to the Ohoka Road, joining the strip recently laid down by the Eyre County Council. The work in the business area is being proceeded with, so that by the time the new road extends from the golf links to the bridge the stretches on each side will be ready for use, thus eliminating the necessity of holding up traffic at the northern and southern ends of the bridge. Traffic is advised to turn to the left at the Kaiapoi Post Office along the road lined out by the Canterbury Automobile Association. After reconstruction has proceeded three chains from the golf links to Dale Street, traffic will be able to return to the Main North Road and Dale Street with little inconvenience, a detour of only about a quarter of a mile being necessary.
