Miss O, Hassell, Timaru, is visiting her sister,, Mrs B. Martin, Wellington. Mrs Percy Acton-Adams, Tipapa, is a guest at Warner’s Hotel. Mrs A. Waddell, Bluff, is staying at the United Service Hotel. Mr and Mrs C. M. Tripp arrived yesterday morning from the north. Mrs W. Acton-Adams and Mrs R. Ac ton-Adams, Drmedin, are guests at the United Service Hotel. Mrs J. A. Clark is paying a short visit to her mother, Mrs W. J. Welch, Waimate. Mrs Cecil Howden, Ileretaunga, returned home on Saturday from a visit to Christchurch. Mrs A. T. Chapman and Miss M. Chapman returned to Christchurch yesterday from a visit to Wellington.
Lady Lindo Ferguson, of Dunedin was a passenger by the Rangitane which left Lyttelton on Saturday for Auckland.
Mr and Mrs Cyril Ward, who have been visiting the Rt Hon Sir Joseph Ward, in Wellington, returned to Christchurch on Saturday morning. Miss Gwenda Hammerton, who has been visiting her aunt, Mrs 11. J. Beadel, Christchurch, has returned to Wellington. Mr and Mrs W. J. Hunter and Master Bryan Hunter will leave for Australia this week to spend a holiday in Northern Queensland. Word has been received that her Excellency Lady Bledisloe has consented to act as . patroness of the Wellington Free Kindergarten Association. The following are the latest arrivals at the Hotel Federal:—Miss M. Stewart (lianmer Springs), Mr E. V. Barry (Wellington), Mr and Mrs H. Russell (Geraldine).
Mrs H. R. Fisher, Karori, has received a letter from England stating that her latest story for children has been accepted by the well-known firm of Messrs Blackie and Son, Glasgow. Mrs Fisher has for some years been a regular contributor, under a nom-de-plume, to various newspapers and periodicals, and is in that way known to a wide circle of readers. Her fairy tales have appeared on various junior pages. The new book is to be published shortly under the title of “ Joan, Betty and the Seagull.” SIISISBIBBIBBBISIBBBBSiIBSBBBBffIBBBIIiiiia
Mr and Mrs Robert Pierrepoint, Miss Ruth Dunning and Miss F. Karl, New York, are visiting Christchurch, and are staying at the United Service Hotel. Mrs Leslie Greener, the New Zealand artist, who will, perhaps, be better recognised as Miss Rhona Haszard. who lives at Alexandria, has received an invitation to contribute work to an exhibition of pictures b\ contem porary British artists organised by the Prince of Wales, to be held at the Grafton Gallery, London, this month, states a London correspondent. The exhibition is on behalf of the British Legion, and it is the aim of the organisers to make the collection “ really representative of the best in modern art,” Among those sending exhibits are Muirliead Bone, Sir D. Y. Cameron, Sir George Clausen, Augustus John, Sir William Orpen, Sir Johfv Lavery, and many other well-known arists. Mrs Greener’s contribution is an oil painting, “ La Coupee, Sark.”
