WEST SPREYDON SCHOOL. The usual fortnightly function was held in the school last Saturday. The novelty dances were won by Miss Cairns and Mr Henderson and Miss Tiney Glover and Mr Street. Miss Dorothy Moore’s Orchestra supplied the music. PERSONAL. The sympathy of the Spreydon and Addington residents is extended to the relatives of the late Councillor F. R. Cooke who passed away at the Lewisham Hospital on Thursday. The deceased was a member of the Spreydon Burgesses’ Association and at all times was willing to assist in the direction of improving the district. There are several works which have been carried out in Spreydon and Addington during his term as councillor which bear testimony to his progressiveness. ADDINGTON SCHOOL COMMITTEE. Despite the snow storm last Saturday the school committee held its usual social. The prize winners were: Mesdames Wootton, Ohlson and E. Ohlson, Messrs J. Moore, W. Hartigan and Moore.

ST MARY’S CHURCH, ADDINGTON. A very important event will be celebrated on Sunday at St Mary’ Church. The vicar, Canon W. S. Bean, has completed thirty-eight years’ ministry on Sunday (St Peter’s Day) and it has been a term of splendid service to the parish. The vicar still conducts the religious instruction classes at the public school as has been his custom for a number of years. A hearty invitation is given to all friends and former parishioners to be present on Sunday, as advertised in the “ Star ” in the “ Church Notices.” WASHINGTON LODGE, 1.0.0. F. N.G. Brother E. S. Bryden presided over a good attendance of members of Washington Lodge. Progress reports were received on several brothers on the sick list. Sick pay amounting to £35 10s was passed for payment. Four candidates were initiated into the Order and four proposals for membership were received. Brethren were advised of forthcoming meetings of the Encampment and Degree Lodges. It was reported that arrangements for the forthcoming annual social were well in hand, and that the Grand Master of New Zealand,. Brother D. F. Smillie, and other Grand Lodge officers, would be present.
