The season 1912 was the year of the experiment of the “ triangular tournament,” which was not altogether a success. Syd Gregory was in charge of the Australians and it was very fitting that he should play his fiftieth test match on the historic ground at Lord’s A handsome presentation of plate and a cheque was made bv Sir George Reid to the. popular little Australian, who had played at Lord’s as far back as 1890. Wretched weather prevailed and another drawn game resulted. Frv declared at 310 for seven (Hobb<= 107) and when Australia had reached 982 for seven the came had to be abandoned Macartnev had made 99 while Kellawav was verv rieid for f our and a half hours to score 61. The Fire Brigade received a call to 18, Britten Street, Linwood, at 12 48 p.m. to-day to a dwelling-house owned and occupied by Mr Stewart. Only slight damage was done to the lining boards and the chimney place in the kitchen. The fire was caused by a de-! fective chimney. f . j
