PRIME MINISTER MAKES COUNCIL APPOINTMENT.

(Special to the “Star.”) WELLINGTON. June 27. The appointment of the Hon R. Masters as deputy-leader of the Legislative Council was announced to-day by the Prime Minister. Mr Forbes pointed out that Mr Masters, when a member of the Lower House, had shown himself to be one of the soundest critics in matters of finance and business undertakings and departmental activities. His criticisms had always been looked upon as being worthy of the utmost attention during the whole of his career as a Parliamentarian. At the same time he had displayed a broad outlook on public and national affairs generally, and Mr Forbes was convinced that in his new position Mr Masters would be able to give useful assistance to the Leader of the Council in every direction.
