PORTER DID NOT SCORE.

Cliff Porter did not score for New Zeeland in the scond spell of the first test. What really happened was this:—A scrum on the British line and Britain partly hooked the ball. Porter saw the situation in a flash, dived into the ruck and touched down the ball. The referee blew his whistle and would probably have awarded a free-kick to Britain for handling in the scrum, but other factors intervened—unnecessary appeals by the visitors—and he deliberately ordered another scrum to be formed.
