MATCH AT LORD'S ENDS TAMELY.

JACKSON TOPS SCORE FOR AUSTRALIANS. (United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) (Received May 21, 9.45 a.m.) LONDON, May 20. As only five minutes remained after the Australians’ depressing in nings had ended, Marylebone did not bat again. The match was drawn. Play was resumed at one o’clock. The slippery ball hampered the bowlers, and the attack was entrusted to the slow bowlers, Stevens and Peebles. Jackson continued to bat attractively, though he was dropped on the boundary when 38. Batsmen Favoured. Conditions after lunch still favoured the batsmen. Jackson reached his first fifty of the tour by hitting Peebles for six. Shortly afterwards he cut a ball hard to Hendren at short slip. Kippax and Ponsford batted confidently before they gave easy catches. Richardson was shaky from the start. Grimmett’s wicket was shattered after a vigorous innings. Then Allen also bowled but interest had vanished from the match, which, like the previous fixture, was interesting for two days, and then ended tamely. Fairfax, nevertheless, batted as though his side was in a desperate position. Scores: AUSTRALIA.

Bowling analysis.—Wall two for 66; Fairfax six for 54; Homibrook two for 44; Grimmett none for 78. TOURISTS HAVE NOT YET STRUCK FORM. LONDON CRITICS GIVE IMPRESSIONS OF PLAY. (Received May 21, 12.30 p.m.) LONDON, May 20. P. F. Warner says “The Marylebone match leaves the impression that the Australian batsmen have not yet run into true form, and they are weaker after No. 6 than any Australian eleven for a great many years. Their bowling is better than I have seen it. All bowl at the wicket. At present I am most optimistic that England will win the rubber, but the visitors are improving daily.” Colonel Philip Trevor says: “The Australians made quite a good impression on their first appearance at Lord’s. Two of the four bowlers created a pleasant surprise, the wicket-keeping was first-class, and the fielding was good.” RULES MAY BE ALTERED. (Received May 21, 11.30 a.m.) LONDON, May 20. Messrs H. D. Swan and A. H. Fisher represented New Zealand at a meeting of the Imperial Cricket Conference at Lord’s, which approved a number of alterations to the rules, including one regarding the residential qualifications.
