The Competitions.
To the Editor. Dear Sir, —Kindly allow me a little of >-out valuable space to pass a remark about the Competitions which are at present being held in Christchurch. I thoroughly believe in Competitions: in fact, I have two children in the elocutionary class?.'; but one point should be mentioned about the judging. Do not think, sir, that I am speaking disparagingly of the gentlemen who prove such helpful benefactors to the Competitions; but, rather, that I am issuing a confidential hint that the adjudicators should try to condense their critiques a little. Really, what is said on the award sheets need hardly be read out when giving the decisions. A lecture, provided it be not too lengthy, is in order; and, moreover, it is of distinct educational value. It must be remembered, however, that most people in the audience have a time schedule they would like to observe; and anything which prevents them from doing so is inclined to spoil their good I am, etc., TRAMRIDER. ,
