SECOND ROUND OPENS IN FINE WEATHER. The seconr l round of the Canterbury Hockey Association competitions was played this afternoon in ideal weather an don fast grounds. CHRISTCHURCH v. REDCLIFFS. Kedcliffs opened the attack, and had a .couple of unsuccessful shots. Christchurch secured, but Thompson cleared with a long hit and T. Prebble put in a good solo effort, but hit outside. Redcliffs put in a strong right wing effort, and Grafton centred hard across the goal, but Burnhill saved. Redcliffs returned, and a combined effort ended in Howard opening the score. Redcliffs 1, Christchurch 0. Christchurch retaliated, and were sent back by Thompson, but returned, and Morrissey sent in a shot, which Snooks stopped, but Fullwood followed in smartly and equalised. Redcliffs 1, Christchurch 1. Martin (Christchurch) received a hit on the ankle, and was replaced by Bearne. Redcliffs were having the better of the game, and a combined effort reached Christchurch goal, and T. Prebble added from a scramble in the goal. Redcliffs 2, Christchurch 3. Half-time score:Redcliffs 2, Christchurch 1. On resuming. Christchurch set un r solid attack, but missed with the Anal shot. T. Prebble centred well for Redcliffs, hut Egan cleared. SYDENHAM v. TECHNICAL. Sydenham pressed hard right from the opening bully, Spiers putting in a neat centre which was intercepted by Hahn. Dash stopped a Technical rush, and gave Ainger a chance, which was not accepted. Sydenham kept on the offensive and Pickup was temporarily disabled. The game was all in favour of Sydenham, who gained several penalty corners without success. Technical improved, but Dash sent play back, and Sydenham made a solid combined effort from which Neate opened the score. Sydenham 1, Technical 0. Half-time blew with Sydenham attacking and the score: Sydenham 1, Technical 0. The opening stages of the second spfell were fairly even. VARSITY v. TRINITY. Trinity attacked right from the bullyoff, Burbery scoring within twenty seconds of starting. Trinity 1, Varsity 0. Varsity came away with a rush. Webster having a shot, from which a corner resulted. From another Varsity raid Patterson saved well. A freehit to Varsity put them in a good scoring position. After a period during which Varsity did most of the attacking, Trinity came away and went close to scoring. Forman had a shot, and a melee ensued round the goal, a corner resulting. From resulting play Radcliffe put Trinity two goals ahead with a good shot. Trinity 2, Varsity 0. Very soon afterwards Trinity made another hot raid, Radcliffe notching a neat one. Trinity 3, Varsity 0. At half-time the Trinity 3, Varsity 0.
