GRANT WILL BE MADE TO ARTHURS PASS BOARD.
On March 3 the Finance Committee reported to the City Council on the question of providing a sum of money on the estimates as a grant towards the Arthur Pass National Park Board It recommended that an amount not exceeding £SOO be placed on the esti mates for the purpose, and that the payment of this amount be subject to the condition that other local bodies be. asked to pay a proportionate amount in- accordance with the City Council’s contribution on similar lines to the arrangement made in contributing to the Canterbury Progress League At last night’s meeting of the council the committee reported that the chairman of the board waited upon the committee to urge that the council should amend the condition set down, and asked if the council could see .its wav to contribute a fixed sum so that they would have something to go upon when collecting from other districts The committee had given the matter further consideration, and recommend ed the council to contribute £SOO provided an equivalent amount was contributed by other districts. If this amount was not collected,, the comic;! to contribute on a £1 for £l basis on any such lesser amount collected. The recommendation was adopted
