When Ladies Sold Their Tresses. In a newspaper in the year 1663 there appeared the following curious advertisement: “Whereas George Gray, a barber and perriwigge maker, over against the Greyhound Tavern, in Blackfryers ♦London, stands obliged to serve some particular persons of eminent condition and quality, in his way of employment. It is, therefore, notifyed at his desire, that anyone having long flaxen hayr to sell may repayr to him. the said George Gray, and they shall have 10s the ounce; and for anv other long, fine hayr, after the rate of. os, 6s, or 7s the ounce.”
