WELCOME TO BYRD TO BE BROADCAST.

COMPANY ANNOUNCES NEW ARRANGEMENTS. Mr A. R. Harris, general manager of the Radio Broadcasting Company, advises that he has been in communication with Rear-Admiral Byrd, by letter and by radio, with the view to arranging for the broadcasting of a talk from 2YA, Wellington. Rear-Admiral Byrd has, however, now advised by radiogram that he regrets he cannot consent to broadcast and that in any case he is doubtful if he will have time to visit Wellington. The Broadcasting Company is, however, broadcasting the reception which will be accorded RearAdmiral Byrd on his arrived at Dunedin. Mr Harris also states that arrangements are in train for the broadcasting of the welcome which will be given Lord and Lady Bledisloe in Wellington on Thursday, March 20, at 8 p.m. If the necessary relay lines are available, the broadcast will be made from all four stations simultaneously. The midday broadcasts which have been a feature of 3YA programmes during the past couple of months, will cease on Saturday, March 15, the end of summer time. In co-operation with Dr Kidson of the Meteorological Office, who prepared a special weather forecast, these broadcasts were for the benefit of the farmers of Canterbury while engaged in harvesting operations, and the weather reports which have been broadcast have proved of great value.
