MAIMOA CATCHES FIRE IN ATLANTIC.

RADIO MESSAGE TELLS OF STEAMSHIP’S PLIGHT.

(United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copy rig h t. > (Received February 10, 11.50 a.m.) LONDON, February 9. The British steamer Maimoa, bound from Napier to London, sent a wireless message from Latitude 48deg 40min North, Longitude 32deg 46min West that No. 3 hold w*as on fire. The ship is making twelve knots and is going to the Azores. She asks that ships in her vicinity should indicate their whereabouts.

The Shaw, Savill and Albion Co. own the Maimoa, a twin screw steamer of 8011 tons. She was built in 1920 and holds Lloyd’s highest certificate. She has passenger accommodation. The vessel usually calls at Lyttelton to pick up cargo for England,

The Maimoa, with Captain Johnson, R.N.R., in command, left Colon on January 28 for London, being due there on February 15, Her cargo consists of 8856 bales of wool, 207 bales of skins, 183 casks of pelts, 312 casks of tallow, 41,737 butter boxes, 17,741 cheese cases, 8946 carcases of mutton, 64,740 carcases of lamb, 1922 quarters and 154 bags of beef, 788 parcels of veal, 1642 carcases of pork, 152 bundles of hemp, 158 bundles of tow and 120 hides. Most of her cargo is for London, though she was also set down to unload at Antwerp and other Continental ports.
