GERALDINE BAND HAS ANNUAL MEETING.

On Friday night the annual meeting of the Geraldine District Band was held in the Town Hall. Mr W. A. Sherratt presided in the absence of the Mayor, who was at Fairlie in connection with Power Board business. Mr the Town Clerk, presented the balance-sheet. The receipts for the year were £B3 6s lOd, and the balance to credit £l6 11s. After deductions for depreciation, * the assets were shown as £572, including instruments, music, uniforms, etc., as well as a cash balance of £26. There were no liabilities. The chairman said the previous year was a bad one for the band, but since Mr Undrill had accepted the conductorship it had progressed and the results would be still more apparent. Some thought the public had not supported the band, but he reminded those that the public had supplied them with a splendid set of instruments. Officers were elected as follows: Patron, Mr T. D. Burnett, M.P.; president, Mr G. Bryant; vice presidents, Archdeacon Purchas, Mr R. Craig, Mr J. Vance and Mr Drummond Sharpe; band master. Mr E. Johnson; band sergeant, Mr J. Brett; librarian, Mr Broad; secretary, Mr J. Borrell; delegates to management committee, .Messrs E. Undrill and J. Brett. The Borough Council and the Citizens’ Association also elected two members each. On the motion of Mr Hayes a vote of thanks to Mr E. Undrill, Mr J. D. M’Kechnie and all who had helped was carried with applause. It was agreed to enrol honorary members at a small yearly subscription and to canvass the district for honorary members. Later a smoke concert was held in the Town Hall. The function was well attended by citizens as well as bandsmen. Councillor W. A. Sherratt presided and the toast list included the following: “The King”; “The Band,” proposed by Mr M. G. Williams and responded to by Mr Undrill; “The Junior Members," “ The Management Committee,” “ The Borough Council," and “ The Chairman."
