Dr William Royal Stokes and Dr Harry Anderson, officials of the Hygienic Laboratory of the United States Public Health Service, who handled parrots afflicted with psittacosis (parrot fever) have died from the fever. Both took extreme precautions during the experiments. Nevertheless, they caught the malady and became desperately ill. ’ Nine days following the first exposure, Dr Anderson died.
