A cave has been discovered on the banks of the Waikato, below the Aratiatia rapids. The Native who accidentally found it through his dog got into it, and discovered remains of kits of better design than the Maoris make now. There were some markings on the walls which he could not make out. It is proposed to keep the locality secret until the visit of Mr Henry Hill, of Napier, who knows every acre of this district from a geological point of view. The Native did not disturb the floor, which may possibly yield some remains of interest. Excellent weather prevailed at Sumner during the week-end, and bathing was again enjoyed in a smooth sea Yesterday afternoon Derry’s Band rendered an excellent programme at the Cave Rock band rotunda, giving pleasure to a large crowd of residents and visitors accommodated on the pier, amongst the rocks or in the numerous motor-cars parked on the Esplanade.
