Useful for social gatherings at which full evening dress would be too formal is the gown of black ring velvet and patterned beige satin, the former fabric being used for the fitted, fluting skirt and one half of the bodice. This is sufficiently uncommon to commend itself, one sleeve also being in black velvet.
