Mrs Comerford (Sumner) who has been spending a holiday in Auckland, returned home yesterday. Sir Henry and Lady Wigram, Park Terrace, will leave in April for a trip to England. Mr and Mrs F. A. Mr and Mrs Suckling (Christchurch) are staying at the Grosvenor Hotel, Timaru.

Mr and Mrs R. W. Morrow and Miss A. Morrow (Christchurch) are staying in Timaru.

Mr and Mrs T. P. Armstrong and their two daughters (Christchurch) intend leaving on March 12 to join the Mongolia on an extended tour abroad. Miss C. Taylor, 40 Holmwood Road, Fendalton, will leave Christchurch on March 10 for a trip to England and the Continent.

Mrs H. F. Wright and family have returned to Christchurch after spending six weeks at their bach at “ The Pines,” Kairaki.

Mrs Albert Bettle and Miss Peggy Bettle (Heathcote Valley) are leaving for a holiday with relatives in Greymouth.

Sister M. Peake is the guest of Mrs James Mitchell, Cashmere Hills. She will leave on Thursday evening for England. Miss Elizabeth Harris (Christchurch) is visiting Timaru and will be the guest of Mrs W. H. Hargreaves (Kakahu), for a few days.

Mrs C. Perry (“Cadogan,” Sefton Street, Timaru), who has been staying with Mrs G. Bullock (Christchurch), returned home to-day. Miss Olive Kettle (London), who has been the guest of Mrs G. Gould, Christchurch. has gone to Wellington for a visit to the North Island. Mrs Stan Gibson, Cheviot, and Miss M. Nelson, Wellington, have returned to their homes again after an enjoyable stay in Timaru, where they went for their sister’s wedding. Among the recent guests at Mountain House, Arthur’s Pass, were:—Mrs M’Kee (Wellington), Mr Kaye, Mr Daniels (Greymouth), Mr Page (Otira), Miss Mattingly (Dunedin). Mrs G. P. C-ranby, of Kew, Melbourne, is again touring through New Zealand, and will be in Christchurch for a few weeks prior to visiting Milford Sound. The Rev. E. C. Crosse and Mrs Crosse (Christ’s College), who have been spending the holidays in Hawke’s Bay and Rotorua, returned to Christchurch on Saturday. Mr and Mrs T. D. Kendall and Miss Vivienne Kendall (Bealey Avenue) who have been spending a holiday on the West Coast, hav4 returned to Christchurch.

Donna June Sapio will leave Christchurch at the end of the week and will return to her home in Italy by the Rangitata. She has been spending several months with her parents Sir George and Lady Clifford.

sasniiisaaiisiiiiiuiinisisdisi Garden Fete. There was a large attendance of visitors from Christchurch and neighbouring districts on Saturday afternoon at the beautiful home of Mr and Mrs R. M. Morten, “Ahuriri,” Tai Tapu, for the garden fete organised by members of the Lincoln-Tai Tapu branch of the Plunket Society. The sum of £9O was raised, and the society has every reason to feel gratified with the result of their efforts. The weather was perfect and stall holders did good business on the spacious lawns, while a large garage was transformed into an excellent afternoon tea house. Mr H. S. Kyle, M.P., when opening the fete, welcomed the visitors on behalf of Mr and Mrs Morten and the Plunket Society. Sir Truby King, who was the head of the society, had been responsible for its extension to the backblocks. The Society wished the youth of the country—its future citizens—to be healthy and strong. As a result of the Plunket system, the percentage of infant and maternal mortality in New Zealand was the smallest in the world. The various stall-holders ■were: — Afternoon tea: Mesdames R. N.. Martin, Cooke, W. Menzies, and Miss Welsh.
