PUBLIC SCHOOLS RE-OPEN TO-DAY AFTER HOLIDAYS.
This morning, after several weeks of freedom, the children attending the public schools returned to work. There were many new faces, and many proud youngsters commenced their school career. On the other hand there were many old faces missing, for the secondary schools will have their usual host of recruits from the primary schools. The juvenile population considers that the children attending the Waimairi, West Spreydon and Little Rakaia schools are very lucky, for those schools failed to open this morning. Owing to building, and work about the grounds being in progress, the Waimairi, and West Spreydon schools will not open till next Monday. The secondary schools will commence this week. The Boys’ High School reopened to-day, the number of new pupils being about 170. The Girls’ High School will resume to-morrow. St. Andrew’s and St. Bede’s will start on Wednesday, and Christ’s College on Thursday. New students of the Technical College will attend to-morrow.
