NARROW ESCAPE FROM DROWNING IN A SWAMP.
(Special to the “ Star.”) AUCKLAND, February 1. Mr and Mrs F. 11. Dwan, of Wellington, and two children were motoring across a swamp road at Mercer yesterday when the car plunged into the swamp and fell on its side. Although submerged at first, it partially righted itself, enabling the parents to scramble out. The children were in the back seat asleep. All the distracted parents could see of one child was his feet above water, but, grasping these,’ they pulled him out. Finally, the whole family regained the road, drenched and suffering from shock.
