Sixth Round Not Yet Completed ; Dunedin Greens Almost Under Water.

Per Press Association. DUNEDIN, January 20. The Dominion of New Zealand .Bowlins' Association had another unfortunate experience to-day. The rinks competition was continued at 1* n.m. The Intention was to complete the fifth and sixth rounds and then to bring the first round, which was interrupted by rain on Friday, to a conclusion. The weather, bbwever, again proved to be the deciding factor, and it was found to be impossible to carry out the programme arranged. Some cg-in was experienced about midday, but it was not sufficient to stop play. The fifth round was completed, and about half of the sixth round had been played, when heavy rain set in, necessitating a stop for the day shortly after 3 p.m. So heavy was the rain that in a short space of time the Dunedin green was almost completely under water. Between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. the rain ceased. Following are the results of play:— SECTION A. W. Td.

When the half-way stage had been reached in the afternoon game, rain, which had set in shortly before, came down in torrents, and in a quarter of an hour the majority of the greens resembled miniature lakes. Further play for the day was, of course, quite out of the question. The committee has. therefore, been compelled to re-arrange the programme, and, if fine weather is experienced to-morrow, the programme will be right up to date. When play commenced in the morning, a tricky wind was blowing, but the majority of the greens were in firstclass order. In Section A. Main (Beckenham) bad a keen struggle with Claridge (Caledonian). but suffeivd defeat by the narrow margin of two points (29-27). In the same section, the Ashbury rink skipped by Alarming just failed to get home against Ayson (So* thland). the latter winning a great contest by 21 points to 20. Craw (Canterbury) prov•ed too strong for Walton (Awamoa), tin* final scores being 29-23 in Canterbury’s favour. * In Section B. Hargreaves (Rangiora) was never in the hunt against Dear** (Dunedin), who put on 30 points to his opponent’s 17. Piper (Matai) defeated Alarks (Christchurch) by 23-20 In a game that was full of interest, and In which the issue was In doubt until the final howl had been played. In Section C, Chambters (Sumner) suffered his third defeat, when be met Stuart (St Kilda). who. though as yet unbeaten, was fully extended in scoring 23 points to Sumner’s 22. Piper (Christchurch) defeated Walker (Otautau) by 23 to 17. In Section D, Harraway (Dunedin) had a runaway victory against Efford (Edgeware), the latter scoring only 13 to his opponent’s 28. In the same section, Keen (Timaru) suffered defeat-at the hands of Walker (Otago) by 20 to In Section E, Ainger (Christchurch) went down to ,T. Hutchison (Dunedin) by 33 to 26. Hutchison scored a seven six and five. On one head, the Dunedin men lay eight shots when Aingvr had a bowl to play. The. latter drove, but cut out only one of his opponents’ bowls. In this section, Haig (Opawa) suffered his third defeat, going down to Gray (Kelburn). 24-21. In Section F, Callender (Timaru) had a hard contest against Selburn (St Clair), winning by two points in a game in which the issue was in doubt until the final bowl had been piaved Fox (Canterbury) just failed against Gordon (Alasterton), the North Island rink prevailing by a sipgle point. In Section G, anotlfcr close contest resulted in the game between Ives (Canterbury) and Hinehcliflr (Caledonian» the former winning by 18 ts 36. (Waimate) proved too strong for Burson (Linwood) in a high scoring gam**, the Waimate man prevailing by 23 points to 21. In Section IT, Watson (United) registered his fourth successive win in defeating Frapwell (Kaituna) by 32 points In Section I. Edmonds (Temuka) went down to Addess (St KildaA by r* points («* 1 -22). Addess's score included the possible (eight) in this section. Brv>mner (West End) beat Morgan (Edgeware) by 28 to 18. THE CANADIAN BOWLERS. VISIT TO CHRISTCHURCH. The party of Canadian bowlers at present touring the Dominion will arrive in Christchurch by train from Parnassus on Monday, January 27. They will be met at the Christchurch railway station by members of the centre and conveyed to the United Service Hotel, where they will stay while in Christchurch. On Tuesday morning at 10.13 n.m. a civic reception will be tendered the visitors by the Mayor (Rev ,T. K. Archer) at the Municipal Chambers. In the afternoon a match will be played on the. United Club’s green, and in the evening a conversations wUI be given for tlir visitors in the Je!Eeo» Ha]!. On 'Wednesday morning the touring side will be taken for a motor tour of the city and to the “ Sign of the Kiwi.” where they will he entertained at morning tea. In the afternoon they will be conveyed to the Sumner Bowling Green, where a further match will be played. The evening will be free, and they will depart on Thursday morning by the first express. The president of the centre will be pleased if as many bowlers as can do so will attend the reception at the Municipal Chambers on Tuesday morning.
