Now is the time for the rata blossom in Westland. Blood red blossoms fire the mountain-side with gorgeous crimson —a marvellous frame of colour to the pure white picture of the Glaciers. Hokitika to Franz Josef Glacier, 9S miles; Franz Josef to Fox Glacier, 17 miles through a roadway of unrivalled beauty. 16 Yesterday Timaru was again thronged by something like 2000 visitors, the majority of whom arrived in two fullyloaded special trains from Christchurch. Caroline Bay was the centre of attraction and although the weather was, on the whole, good, a high wind and a shower of rain made things a trifle unpleasant at times. From all reports, however, our visitors thoroughly enjoyed their outing.
