COUNTY HEALTH INSPECTOR’S REPORT. The Ashburton County Health Inspector reports one case of scarlet fever from Westerfield during the past week. The inspector also reports that twentysix drivers’ licenses have been issued since the New Year, making a total of 2824 in the county. TINWALD TOWN BOARD. At a meeting of the Tinwald Town Board. Mr W. Bryant presiding, it was reported that the cocksfoot right for the season had been sold to Messrs Goss Bros. The district railways engineer wrote agreeing to supply material for the erection of twenty-four chains of fencing along the Mount Somers line. WAKANUI ROAD BOARD RATE. Out of the total rates struck by the Wakanui Road Board, viz., £512 in No. 2 Ward and £628 in No. 3 W ard, the amounts outstanding after Friday were: No. 2 Ward. £3B: No. 3 Ward, £9O. These amounts will incur the ten per cent penalty. CHRISTCHURCH BUTCHERS’ PICNIC. The Christchurch butchers held their annual picnic in the Ashburton Domain on Saturday in ideal weather conditions. The special train by which they travelled carried nearly 1000 people. PERSONAL. Mr and Mrs R. J. Thompson, Havelock Street, have returned from a motor tour of the North Island. Mr and Mrs N. L. Wood and family, who have been spending the holidays in Dunedin, have returned to Ashburton. Misses 11. and N. Osman, Wills Street, who have been on a visit to Wanganui, are spending the remainder of the holidays at New Brighton. Mr and Mrs W. Crawford. Park Street, returned from a motoring tour on Friday. Mr and Mrs R. J. Milligan, of Lismore, are leaving for a trip to England in April. METHVEN. Rates struck bv the Mount Hutt Road Board for 1929-30 totalled £3216. Of this amount. £l2lO has been paid to date. The last day of payment is February 6. after which a ten per cent penalty will be added. The Methven War Memorial has now been completed, and it presents an imposing piece of work. The memorial takes the form of an arch and is situated at the entrance gates of the Methven District High School. At a recent meeting of the committee it was decided to ask the Minister of Defence, the Hon J. G. Cobbe, to unveil the memorial tablets. The committee is now awaiting a reply from the Minister as to what date will suit his convenience.
