ATHLETES TO RUN AT ENGLISH PARK.

To-night, at English Park, Lynch Cooper, world’s champion sprinter, will try conclusions with Don M’Lennan, the most brilliant sprinter the Dominion has produced. These two runners will race over three distances, 75yds, 100yds and 120yds. M’Lennan is regarded as one of the best sprinters in the world, and it will not be surprising to see him defeat the world's champion. The series of races promised to provide the best exhibitions of running seen in the Dominion for many years. J. D. Fitt, the holder of the world’s record, lmin 55sec, for the half-mile, will, race against George Getson, New Zealand’s best distance performer. Fitt will also compete in an invitation halfmile race against G. Getson, C. K. Yeatman, T. A. Shalders and S. W. Payne. With Getson and Yeatman in good form, a thrilling race is assured. Paced by Tom M’Cleary, W. T. Weir will attempt to lower Hubert Opperman’s five miles motor-paced record. A five-mile scratch race with sprints every lap promises to provide a series of thrills from start to finish. Other events in an entertaining programme include 120yds flat handicap, one mile handicap cycle race and a humorous novelty event. The Woolston Band will play during the evening. The sports will commence at eight o’clock.
