BANANA SHIPMENT REACHES RETAILERS. As the result of improved weather, j supplies of fish are much better, and prices are cheaper than they have been iduring the past week or two. Soles and flounders are selling for Is and small trevalli are obtainable at eight for Is. Crayfish prices are as usual. Following are' the prices for other fish: —Groper, lid; ling, 7d; mold, 9d; gurnett, 7d; cod, 6d; skate, 4d. Fruit. Unseasonable weather has affected open-grown tomatoes and only hot-house-grown are available at lOd, Is and Is 3d per lb. The cherry season has almost ended Supplies to hand are selling at Is and Is 6d. A new 7 shipment of bananas ex Maui Pomare was landed this morning, and the fruit is selling at six, eight and twelve a Is. Valencia oranges are on the market at four and five a Is, and the popular grape fruit are selling at 6d each. Cooking peaches are offering at 4d and Gd per lb, and dessert at 8d and 9d. Plums are plentiful and are selling at 4rl and 6d, while nectarines are available at 6d and 8d per lb. Supplies of apricots are scarce and will remain so. The first of the season’s greengages are now on the market at 8d and 9d. Of the vegetables, peas, beans, new potatoes and marrows are fairly plentiful. Meat. Meat prices are about the same as they were over the holiday period. Mutton is cheap, but there is no alteration in the price of lamb. There was a small market at Addington last week, partly due to the inclement weather. As there is an abundance of feed farmers are not compelled to sell. Eggs. The egg market is about the same as it was last week. Prices are Is 2d and Is 4d per dozen. At present there is a fair demand from the North Island. Business is quiet, little change transpiring in general lines. There will be an improvement when the schools re-open for the new year in about a fortnight.
