At Sandringham. When Sandringham was taken over by the King and Queen after the death of Queen Alexandra, the interior was largely rearranged in order to provide separate and convenient suites of apartments for the Prince of Wales, the Duke and Duchess of York, the Duke of Gloucester and Prince George whenever they cared to make use of them (says the “Queen”). Since then the King has on several occasions pressed the Duke and Duchess of York to take over the still vacant York Cottage. They much prefer to be at Sandringham itself, however, since they would only be able to stay at York Cottage for a very short time every year. Their suite there includes very sunny night and day nurseries for Princess Elizabeth, who has only used these, however, very little, though she was likely to be there with her parents over the Christmas holidays last year. The Royal kennels at Sandringham are a particular delight to her when she is staying there. Her recent visit, long looked forward to, was a source of great delight to the Queen and to the King, one of her most favoured playmates. Mr and Mrs Douglas Fairbanks. When Lady Mountbatten w-ent to to Hollywood, she spent most of her time staying with Douglas Fairbanks and his wife up in the Beverley Hills, so it is not surprising to find that the popular film pair are returning her visit, writes a Londoner. It means, of course, that the telephone at Brook House is overworked, and there are photographers haunting the pavement outside, but there is not the wild rush to see these famous stars that there was the first time they came to London.
