CHRISTCHURCH. (Before Mr E. D. Mosley, S.M.) ; PLEADED “NOT GUILTY." ! Charged with obscene exposure, • Thomas Robert O’Callaghan, fifty, ■ labourer (Mr Sargent) pleaded not guilt}’. After hearing the evidence, • the ftfagistrate committed the accused to the Supreme Court for trial. > “ NOT ALL THERE.” Alexandra Harrison, twenty-two, a farm labourer, was charged that on December 2, with intent to defraud, he obtained £3 from Messrs P. and D. Duncan, Ltd., by means of a false , pretence. Chief-Detective Carroll said that there were more charges of a similar nature pending, and obtained a remand till January 16. “ I’m not sure that he is all there," said Mr Sargent, ■when asking for bail. “ Have a look at him! The people he allegedly imposed upon must have been l pretty soft!” Bail was allowed at £2OO. with one ; surety of £2OO. t A REMAND. ; Saying that other charges were pendr ing, Chief-Detective Carroll asked for a r remand when Leo Peter Kellec, alias - Charles Peter Ross, nineteen, a labourer, was charged with the theft of a t motor-C3 r cle and side-car, valued at £SO, u the property of Frank Richard Driver. • Mr Sargent appeared for accused. Bail - was allowed at £IOO, and one surety of , £IOO, the accused to report daily to 3 the police. "YOU DON’T DESERVE IT!” " You really don’t deserve this last chance I am giving you,” said Mr Mosley, when dealing with Richard Cough--1 lan, labourer, thirty-nine, who was 3 charged with drunkenness and with 5 being a rogue and a vagabond in that [ he wandered abroad to beg alms, and x had already been convicted on a charge t of being an idle and disorderly person. I ”He has not taken the opportunities ; the Court has given him before,” said I Senior-Sergeant Shanahan. “He said ; he was going to walk to Kurow last time.” “And I did,” replied the accused, who . maintained steadily that he had come 1 to town with money, and had a job r to go back to. 3 “ How much have you got left?” asked the Magistrate. ? “ Oh, not much.” j “ Ninepence,” informed the SeniorSergeant. The accused was fined 10s, in default twenty-four hours’ imprisonment, for i drunkenness, and convicted and dist charged on the major count. I ■ ■■
