MOTHER AND TWO CHILDREN DROWN.
TARANAKI DISTRICT SHOCKED BY TRAGEDY. Per Press Association. NEW PLYMOUTH, January 3. A triple drowning tragedy occurred at Oeo, in South Taranaki, this afternoon, the victims being Mrs D. Zimmerman, aged about forty, and her two boys, one aged three years, the other six months. The bodies of the boys were found in a creek about a chain from Zimmerman’s farmhouse, and Mrs Zimmerman’s body was discovered floating in a small dam sixty chains away. Mr Zimmerman, who had been sharemilking for Mr Charles Muggeridge, left the house about 10 a.m. with his brother for Muggeridge’s other farm. On their return the house was seen to be empty and there was no sign of the midday meal having been prepared. The husband’s fears were aroused, remembering previous statements* by his wife. Search was immediately made and the bodies of the children were found cold in shallow water, where there was evidence of a struggle for life. Pursuing the search, the men found Mrs Zimmerman’s body in a dam used for driving the milking plant.
