EDGEWARE BOWLING CLUB.

The following are leading in the club’s handicap singles.—Section A, J. Morgan, four wins; Section B, A. Keen, four wins; Section C, P. Munn, five wins; Section D, D. Burns, five wins; Section E, Sustins, five wins. The various championships are progressing slowly. PERSONAL. Mr Gagliardi, who entered the Lewisham Hspital on Boxing Day to undergo an operation, is progressing very satisfactorily. Mr J. Stewart, another Edgeware bowler, is also in the same hospital. Mr and Mrs G. Biggs and family, Mr and Mrs W. Green (Bristol Street) and family, and Mr and Mrs G. T. Hillsdon and family are spending the holidays at North Beach. EDGEWARE TENNIS CLUB. Further results in the handicap events are as follows: Men’s Handicap Singles.—First round: J. Shier (owe 4-6) beat J. Bremner (rec. 4-6), 9-1; W. H. Beanland (rec. 15 3-6) beat E. Salveson (rec. 3-6), 9i7; J. H. Griffiths (owe 30) beat A. Cavanagh (scr), 9-7. In the second round of the combined handicap doubles. Miss Reynolds and Cavanagh beat Miss Miles and Elam by default. On December 21 the club’s A team, playing in the suburban competitions, defeated Shirley by ten matches to six. On the same date the B team continued their unbeaten record by defeating Wesley by fifteen matches to one. On New Year’s Day, Mr F. J. Murray, the well-known tennis coach, visited the courts, and although the day was eventually wet, he gave those present some very useful advice. SHIRLEY CRICKET CLUB. Saturday, December 21, saw the commencement of the second round in the suburban competition, when the senior team took first strike against W.M.C. at Sydenham Park. The wicket at the start was soft after the previous night’s rain, and enabled J. Gray, of W.M.C., to get the good figures of seven wickets for 42 runs. N. Archer played a very

sound innings to get top score with 43, while L. Kington batted carefully to notch 16. The brightest natch of the innings was the partnership of 44 for the last wicket. B. Aris 32 not out and E). Pitt 19 were the two men responsible for raising the score from 99 to 143. W.M.C. lost five wickets for 111 runs. The junior team met St Albans at Richmond Park, and dismissed them for 153. The successful bowlers for Shirley were H. Davies, five for 43, and W. Haworth, four for 13. Shirley have scored 118 for the loss of three wickets (W. Haworth 25, S. Cowper 25, M’Ewen 14, Campbell 12 not out and J. Streeter 31 not out). In the third grade section, Shirley A defeated Railway by an innings and 22 runs. Scores: —Railway, first innings 29, second innings 50. Bowling for Shirley, Foster took four for 4, Agassiz four for 13 and Algie two for 5 and seven for 36. Shirley scored 101 (Agassiz 21, Whitehead 17 and D. Walker 16). Shirley B went under to W.M.C. by 30 runs on the first innings. Scores:— W.M.C. 106. Anderson, four for 17, and Weekes, four for 41, took the wickets for Shirley, who replied with 76 (Anderson 36 and Worrall 19).
