WOOLSTON NOTES.

BIRTHDAY PARTY. An enjoyable time was spent last Saturday at the residence of Mrs Mintrim, Barton Street, the occasion being the birthday of her son Trevor. PERSONAL. Mr Geoffrey Nichols, formerly of Bamford Street, has returned to llanmer Springs after undergoing an operation in the Christchurch Hospital. The many friends of Mr C. Lilburne will be pleased to hear that he is much improved. On Christmas afternoon members of his family and Woolston friends visited him at the Christchurch Hospital. All Woolston residents join in wishing him a speedy recovery from his illness. Miss. Joyce Cooper, of Ferry Road, is on a visit to Mrs J. G. Whyte, of Wattlegrove, Waipara. BOY SCOUTS. The St John’s Schoolroom, Woolston, on Monday morning was the scene of much excitement, when the St John’s Scouts gathered there prior to going into camp in the New Brighton Domain. About fourteen boys under the Rev F. Tooley, District Scoutmaster, Mr D. Stewart, Scoutmaster for the troup and R. Beaumont and &. Barker, assistant scoutmasters, answered to the roll call. The arrangements for the camp were in the hands of a sub-com-mittee formed for the purpose. The Rev F. Tooley, Messrs O. E. Beaumont, E. Parish and Garland kindly supplied cars to convey the boys to the camp, and Mr W. Cooper supplied the motor to take the camp gear, food, etc. On New Year’s Day a number of parents and friends of the boys visited the camp and, after being show’n through the camp, were served with afternoon tea by the troop. WOOLSTON LIBRARY* Recently the Woolston Library Committee decided to place a light in front of the library building. This has now been installed and will be a boon on dark nights to subscribers. Particulars of a competition amongst members, which was referred to recently, will shortly be placed before the members. The competition should help to boost the library along. REMINDER. The writer of these notes would remind residents that notes left at Miss Fordham’s fruit shop on Ferry Road will be duly sent in for publication in this column.
