"BURIAL ” STOPPED BY BRITISH POLICE.
HYPNOTIST S STUNT WITH GIRL PREVENTED. (United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) LONDON. January 3. There were astonishing scenes out side a Staffordshire theatre where a touring hypnotist came out with £2OO as a challenge that he was prepared to bury a hypnotised girl eight feet deep, and allow her to remain buried for half-an-hour. More than 2000 people surged around to witness the spectacle. The steel coffin was about to be lowered when a large body of police intervened and prevented the incident. The crowd howled defiance at the police, when they saw that there was a likelihood of losing a free show, but order was eventually restored. The hypnotist agreed to desist, saying: “If I am arrested. I will have to prove that the girl was nowise in dan ger. That would take a lot of doing.” The girl, who was annoyed, said that she did not mind being buried for two hours.
