A vote of appreciation to the Government nominees on the Waimakariri River Trust—Messrs J. Wood and J H Blackwell—was moved bv Mr A. Manhire at a meeting yesterday afternoon Ihe board, he said, was indebted to them for the work they had put in Mr Manhire said that at first he had be-n very much against a Wellington man coming on to the board, but there wa~ no doubt that Mr Wood had saved the people of Canterbury thousands of pounds since he had been chairman Ilad it not been for the services givon by him the board would have had to employ a consulting engineer. Mr Blackwell, too, had done valuable work in the interests of the board. The mo tion was seconded by Mr J. A. Flesher who said that he, too, was at first verv much against outsiders being brought < i to the board. The experience of the last three years, however, had led him to see that it was really worth whiD Other members spoke in support of the motion and Messrs Wood and Blackwell returned thanks.
