CANTERBURY COLLEGE BOARD BUYS SITE FOR SCHOOL OF ART.

It is proposed by the Board of Governors of Canterbury College to establish a new building for the School of Art in place of the present quarters, which are in a wing of the University buildings on Rclleston Avenue. For the sum of £5900, a site for the new building was purchased at public

auction by the Canterbury College Board of Governors yesterday. The auction took place at Messrs 11. G. Livingstone and Company’s premises. Tho site which has been acquired is situated at the corner of Gloucester and Montreal Streets. Formerly it was part of the estate of the late Archdeacon James Wilson. In the

early 'seventies a private school wi/ conducted in the buildings which were erected on the site. The Board of Governors of Canterbury College have had the matter of establishing a separ ate building for an art school under consideration for some time, but only recently was it decided to put the proposal into effect.
