PERSONAL.

MINISTERIAL. The Minister of Internal Affairs, the Hon P. A. de la Perrelle, accompanied by his private secretary, Mr E. N. G. Poulton, arrived in Christchurch tjy the second express from the south last evening. He is staying at Warner’s Hotel. This afternoon the Minister will open the new laboratories at Lincoln College, and in the evening he will leave for Wellington. The Hon T. K. Sidey, Attorney-Gene-ral and leader of the Legislative Council, passed through Christchurch last evening on his way to Wellington.

Mr J. S. Barrett left for the north last evening. Mr F. R. Cooke will leave to-morrow for South Canterbury, and will return on Saturday morning. Mr T. T. Hugo, Inspector of Fire Brigades, visited Kaiapoi yesterday and made his annual inspection of the brigade and plant. The Mayor of Wellington, Mr G. A. Troup, arrived in Christchurch by the express from Invercargill last evening and went on to Wellington. Messrs J. C. Young, L. H. Thompson (Palmerston North) and D. B. Adkins (Hinchley, England) are among the guests at the Clarendon Hotel. Messrs W. M’Donald, S. Newman, D. H. Anderson (Wellington) and C. B. Larsen (Racine, U.S.A.) are guests at the United Service Hotel.

Messrs J. Wood and Hartridge (Wellington) are recent arrivals at Warner’s Hotel. , The appointment of Colonel P. Clennell Fenwick, C.M.G., as Dominion Chief Commissioner of Boy Scouts, has been confirmed by Imperial Headquarters.

The University of Innsbruck in 1924 conferred honorary- membership upon Mr Donald Grant, and it has now forwarded to him its gold medal as an accompaniment to the honour of membership. The medal was posted to Mr Grant while he was in Christchurch in July, but he left before receiving it, and it reached him in October in Vienna.
