An iriter-club match between the * Christchurch clubs and the North Can- 4 terbury clubs.- which was arranged, by , their committees at the outset of the \ season, took plate at Redcliffs on Sat- r urday afternoon. It was unfortunate 1 that the Kaiapoi Club could not compete. owing to a local function in which various members were taking part. Nevertheless, a most successful contest eventuated between the Syden- s ham, Rangiora and Christchurch Clubs. 1 the last-mentioned entering two teams ] The shooing was not of a high stand- < ard, which was partly accounted for by J a tricky wind, and a bad light on occasions, especially at the 600yds range. a 95 At the Opening Range. At 300yds 31 was top score out of a 1 possible of 35. The scorers were CThom and A. Barker (Sydenham), C. Humphries and W. Heney < Rangiora) • and J. Willocks. of Christchurch No. 2 < team. C. Thom’s was the best effort, he having 'made a four-bull finish. His card reading 4435555, total 31. Out of 280 counting shots fired by the four ) teams only 64 bu Use yes were put,on. , but “timers” were there in plenty, some 132 being registered, again leaving a strong argument against the reduced bullseye which was adopted this season. The best range iota! was notched by Sydenham, who put on 230, going back to 500yds with a lead of eight points 95 The 500 Yards Range. Shooting was slightly better at 500 yards, and the scoring was more of an even character. C. Thom, the young Sydenham shot, who has been well to the fore this season, was again top scorer, putting on 33. his card reading 4455555, a real good effort with a fivebull finish. Others to shoot well were D. Murray, Christchurch No. 1, and J. Seward, Rangiora, each with 32. Scores of 31 were plentiful. Sydenham again held the advantage, putting on the total 241, Rangiora being next with 238. The Concluding Range. At 600 yards the wind was very tricky, and the light was extremely bad. The scoring fell away consider ably, and “magpies” were very plentiful. Any scores over 29 were good efforts, and only seven competitors were over that mark. C. Thom had a verybad run, putting on only 26. R. Piper, Christchurch No. 1, and a New Zealand representative, was top with 32. He had very bad luck, and a good score ■was spoiled by a three for the finish. His card read 5555543. total 32. G. Hepburn, also of the same team, was next with 31. The following also shot well for 30 each: W. R. Barrett, Sydenham, N. Wood and G. Crimp, Christchurch No. 1, and W. Sand ford and R. Neill, of Christchurch No. 2 team. Though Christchurch No. 1 were top scorers at this range Lv four points, Sydenham rar. ou? ea« winners by twelve points. The fixture was very successful, and ne doubt an effort will 1 e made to get all the Canterbury clubs represented next season at a similar shoot. The conditions were for teams of ten men. the eight highest to count. The scores were as follows: SYDENHAM.

6G5 95 95 95 Gan terb ury Rifle Association. The executive of the Canterbury Rifle Association held a meeting on Saturday. In the absence of the president (Major J. P. Oakes), the deputypresident (Mr W. S. Wharton) presided over a full attendance. The meeting was called to discuss a letter received from the Wellington Rifle Association asking for support in furthering a protest to the National Rifle Association on the altered rings and bulls on the targets. The motion passed at a meeting of the Wellington Association, together with its letter, was as follows:Dear Sir,—l am directed to convey to the National Rifle Association the following resolution which was passed by my committee at a meeting held on the 21st instant: “That this meeting of the Executive of the W ellington Rifle Association considers that the reduction of the target dimensions for the forthcoming N.R.A. meeting is likely to seriously interfere with the attendance of riflemen at the meeting in ' February, 1930, and it would be in the best interests of_ the N.R.A. to consider the advisability of reverting to the target dimensions in use last year.” My association considers that the reduction of the target dimensions in New Zealand are not warranted, and, commencing from the Ist January next, the Welling, ton clubs are reverting to the old size.— Yours faithfully, G.
