Yesterday was the sixtv-fifth anniversary of the laying of the fQundation stone of the Christchurch Anglican Cathedral by the late Bishop Harper. The day was an exceedingly wet one, the ceremony being performed in pouring ram. Mr J. L. Potter, of LeCren Street, Timaru, has vivid recollection of the eventful day. Speaking to a reporter yesterday he stated: “I held the position of foreman in the laying of the foundations of the Christchurch Cathedral, Hemingway and Sheriffs were the contractors for the stonemason work, and it was specified that one thousand barrels of cement should go into the foundations. In fact one special cargo of British cement came over from Sydney. I suppose I am about the only man left who was engaged on that job. Mr Speechly was the superintending architect, and there were three inspectors on the building." BE SAFE!
