FALWASSER TO PLAY LEAGUE.

WILL TAKE FIELD FOR WIGAN CLUB IN NEAR FUTURE. (Special to the “Star.”) AUCKLAND, December 10. Albert Falwasser, the well-known Rugby Union football player, has accepted an engagement with the Wigan Rugby League Club in England, and will sail by the lonic from Auckland to-morrow. Early in the football season just passed, Falwasser was the subject of many conflicting rumours in football circles and, after a denial had been made of the suggestion that he intended to play the League game, it was announced that the Wigan Club had secured his services. Everything was fixed up for the trip and Falwasser was farewelled by the Manukau Rugby Club. The young Maori player went to Wellington, but, on the eve of sailing. deckled for family reasons not to make the trip. There was much speculation on his return as to whether he would play the League code in Auckland, but he did not do so. Falwasser first came into prominence in the Hawke’s Bay team when the Ranfurly Shield was held in that district. He later played in Taranaki and was a member of the Maori team that toured England and France. On coming to Auckland he joined the Manukau Rugby Club and obtained a place in the Auckland representative three-quarter line. He also played for the North Island against the South Island. This year he played one game for the Auckland B representatives. Over the few years the new player for Wigan has built up a big reputation as a clever wing three-quarter of the mercurial kind. Wigan is one of the leading English Rugby League clubs, and in its ranks are several well-known New Zealand League players, including L. Brown, B. Davidson, L, Mason and E. Spillane. The latter, a young Christchurch player, decided to go Home a few months ago.
