ST SAVIOUR'S BABY HOME NOW MOVED TO SITE IN AVONSIDE.
The St Saviour’s Baby Home will move into temporary premises at 42, River Road. Avonside, on December 14, the St Saviour’s Guild having recently decided to leave the present large house at Sumner, in an effort to cut down overhead expenses. This information was given to-day by Mr A. G. S. Gibbs, organising secretary of the Guild, who said that nothing definite has been decided about permanent accommodation. There are fourteen babies at the Home, with Sister Paora in chaige, and it was found that the Sumner home was too large to be economical An intensive campaign has been carried on recently to wipe off the large debt on the three homes, and the officials are economising in every possible direction. Mr Gibbs said that, if the generosity of the public continues for the ensuing year the debt will gradually be wiped off. If, however, the subscriptions fall off, the orphanages cannot but go downhill. The response for Christmas chee. has been very good, for which the Guild is grateful.
