OTAGO DISCUSSES CONTROL OF RUGBY.
FAVOURS CREATION OF EMPIRE ADVISORY BOARD Per Press Association DUNEDIN, December 0. A special meeting of the committee of the Otago Rugby Union was held this evening. The chairman (Mr W. Brown) said the business to be considered was a request contained in a letter from the New Zealand Rugby Union. The letter read as follows:—“The English Rugby Football Union (Twickenham) has forwarded to us a copy of a resolution, which was adopted by the International Board last March, and which reads that as a condition precedent to consideration of the creation of a consultative body under the supreme control of this board, all dominion unions should agree to adopt the laws of the game as framed by the International Board." The New Zealand Union asked the Otago Union whether it was prepared to accept the condition contained in the resolution, which course of action was recommended by the English Union. After a lengthy discussion the following resolution was carried:—“ln the opinion of this committee it is desirable, in the interests of the game of Rugby Union football throughout the Empire, that an Imperial Advisory Board should be created, this body to be the supreme authority in matters concerning Imperial Rugby football. As the proposed consultative body would be under the control of the International Board, which is composed of representatives from the English, Scottish, Irish and Welsh Unions only, this committee is of opinion that nothing would be gained by the creation of a body such as is suggested by the resolution of the International Board. This committee is further of opinion that it is desirable that uniform rules should be played throughout the Empire.”
