CONTRACT LET FOR BIG ROADING JOBS IN RANGIORA COUNTY.

The tenders of British Pavements, Ltd have been accepted t?y the Main Highways Board for the reconstruction of Woodend-Ashley section of the Main North Road, and also the secondary highway from Woodend to Rangiora. The total amount of the contract for the two roads is understood to be about 13.1.000. and the whole of the work is to be completed within eighteen months from the date of the signing of the contract. The Woodend-Ashley section of the Picton-Bluff main highway is 3 miles 59 chains in length, and it is to be paved with bituminous concrete, four inches thick, in two courses It is expected that the work will be completed this summer. A start will be made with the work of paving the road in January. The secondary road from Ashley to Rangiora is 3 miles 55 chains in length, and it is to be paved with bituminous concrete, two and a half inches thick, in a single course. Some preparatory work has to be done, including the spreading of 8000 yards of metal, before the actual paving is done. This preparatory work will be allowed to consolidate during next winter, and thereafter a start will be made with the paving.
