GERMANS SAW DOWN MAST FROM WHICH TRICOLOUR FLUTTERED
(United Press Assn.—-By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) (Received December 6, 11.30 a.m.) COLOGNE, December 5. Following the evacuation of the Second Zone, the inhabitants of Weissenthurn were incensed to find a French flag flying at the memorial to General Hoche. The caretaker of the memorial declined to haul down the tricolour when the Burgomaster requested him to do so, maintaining that the memorial stood on French soil. The Burgomaster withdrew to consult a higher authority. Meanwhile the villagers sawed down the mast. ni!IIUIIllllllllllllltllllllll!Hlllllll!l!lllll!lll!llillllllllll!lllfllllllllll!IIIIIIIIIIIIIItllllllfl
