WAIKUKU GIRLS’ CLUB.
Religious and charitable work will benefit to the extent of £2l 10s as a result of a sale of work and entertainment organised by the Waikuku Girls’ Club. The gross proceeds show an increase of £lO on last year's effort, a result gratifying to the seventeen girls whose work made it possible. The scene of the function was the public hall, which was decorated for the occasion. Needlework, cakes, confectionery, vegetable produce, fruit salad, ice cream and a bran dip attracted patronage, as did the refreshment room. Those in charge were:—Work stall, Misses II Judson and L. Maddison; cake and produce, Misses M. Moody and D. M’Quillan; ice cream axid fruit salad. Misses E Dreaver and M. Sloane; sweets, Misses B. Maddison and S. Forbes; refreshment room, Mesdames J. R. Nelson and C. Morriss, and Miss B. Chinnery; bran tub. Misses B. Smith and I. Rudd. At the evening session an interesting entertainment was given by the same workers, assisted by Misses P. Fletcher and M. Orchard. The programme comprised pianoforte duets and solos, recitations, choruses, and dramatic sketches. Mrs J. R. Nelson (president of the club), who trained the girls, played the accompaniments. Competitions in cork-spearing and candle-light-ing were won by Mr C. Morriss, jun., and Mr C. Dymock, jun. Miss B. IVJaddison was secretary, i The Methodist Orphanage, the foreign mission and the circuit funds will benefit.
