BRIGADE HAS LONG FIGHT TO CHECK SPREAD OF FIRE.
Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, December 6. Two large wooden houses and contents in Victoria Street, Petone, were destroyed by fire at 11.30 last night. A blustering wind was blowing, and, as to this was added a shockingly poor water pressure, the brigade had an exceedingly difficult task to stop the further spread of the flames, the fight continuing for three hours. The house where the fire started was occupied by Mrs Patrick Quinn and family. It was insured for £l5O in the Royal Exchange Office, and £BSO in the State Office. The other was owned by Mrs King. It was occupied by Mrs King and Mr and Mrs Archer and family. It was insured for £SOO in the State Office, and Mrs Quinn’s furniture was insured for £490 in the London and Lancashire Office.
