NATION-WIDE PLOT TO OVERTHROW CHIANG DISCOVERED IN CHINA.
(United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) SHANGHAI, December 5. There is a distinctly uneasy feeling in Nanking following the mutiny of the troops at Pukow, the consensus of opinion being that the position of the Government is serious. The belief is held that the mutiny was part of a nation-wide plot to overthrow the Chiang Kai-shek regime. The failure of the Kuomincbun party to capture Hankow precipitated the trouble. The original intention of the plotters was to attack Nanking, while the Government troops occupied Hunan, but Feng Yu-hsiang’s defeat upset the scheme. The mutineers are preparing to make a stand two hours’ train journey from Pukow, and are at present holding the Tientsin-Pukow railway, numbering thirty thousand. Chiang Kai Shek is rushing the available troops in Nanking towards the front, including the special army that he personally maintained for the defence of Nanking, which hitherto has always been retained in the capital. This indicates the seriousness of the situation.
