ASSOCIATION HOLDS ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Canterbury Owners and Breeders’ Association was held last evening. Mr T G Fox presided. The annual report stated that during the year the sport of trotting had advanced. The racing had been clean and interesting, and a number of excellent performances had been recorded. Countryman, Cardinal Logan, Prince Pointer, Ivohara, Bingen Lad, Jewel Pointer, Peter Bingen, Gold Jacket, Logan Chief, Glide Away and Harvest Child. Trampfast, Young Blake and Elzear. ’ The Forbury Park Trotting Club deserved special praise for continuing a race for three-year-old trotters, which was won this year by Great Nelson and Great Way (dead heat), with Koro Peter third. The following three-year-olds raced prominently during the year:—Wrackler, Great Parrish, Grand Light- and Muriel de Oro. The two-vear-olds to race prominently were: Great Parrish, John Jinks, Real' Muon, Ngingongingo and Purser. During the year the committee very much appreciated the action of several of the trotting clubs in conferring with the executive in connection with the compilation of programmes, also on one or two occasions the Trotting Association sought the advice of the committee regarding the welfare of the trotting sport. The balance-sheet showed an excess of assets over liabilities totalling £276 os Bd. On the motion of the chairman, the annual report and balance-sheet were adopted. The election of officers resulted: President, Mr T. G. Fox; secretary, Mr F. Hickinbottom; vice-presidents, all those who held office last year and Mr S. Bennett; treasurer, Mr J. N. Clarke; auditor, Mr C. W. Ilervey; committee, Messrs D. Withers, F. Unwin, G. F Robinson, A. Hendrickson. R. c. M’Dermott, J. B. M’Dougall, J. Slack, T. 11. M’Kenzie, D. Brown and C. S. Donald. It was decided to secure a special train to be run from Christchurch to Grevmouth on Sunday, March 16, to enable horses racing at New Brighton on the Saturday to take part in the Nelson meeting at Greymouth on
iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiin Monday and Tuesday, March 17 and 18. It was decided to recommend to the incoming committee that consideration be given to a proposal to make a percentage payment to the drivers of second and third horses in races where the total stake was over £IOOO. On the suggestion of Mr J. Bryce, it was decided that the incoming committee should discuss the rules affecting the changing of drivers during a meeting. Mr Bryce pointed out that, if a man drove a horse in the first race and did not want to drive in later races, the only thing to do was to scratch the horse. Mr J. B. M’Dougall said that the rule prohibiting changes of drivers was instituted for the protection of the public. Mr W. J. Tomkinson Said that changing was easily effected under the new rule. He had made changes at Dunedin without any trouble.
