Complete arrangements have been made for augmenting the staff of the Christchurch Post Office to cope with the rush of work expected during the Christmas period. Thirty additional postmen will be employed on December 21, 23, 24 and 27, which are the days on which there will be the heaviest deliveries. Most of these men will be engaged from outside the ordinary staff of the Department, and they will act as assistants to the regular postmen. For delivery of telegrams, the force of messengers will be considerably augmented. On December 23, ten boys from the engineer’s department and ten boys from outside the department will be at work, as well as the ordinary staff, and on December 21 there will be fifteen from the engineer’s department and ten from outside the service—twenty and twenty-five more on delivery than normally on the respective occasions.
