SUMNER FIRE BRIGADE BEATS LYTTELTON IN COMPETITION EVENTS.
An inter-brigade competition was beld in Winchester Street on Saturday afternoon, between teams representing the Sumner and Lyttelton fire brigades. The contest proved very successful, so much so that it is probable that a further competition will be held in a few weeks' time. Some fast runs were witnessed, and, although Sumner won the majoritv. Lyttelton, with two or three new members in the team, made a creditable showing. The officials were:—Referee. Captain R. Carson; judge. Lieutenant B. H. Jones; examiners, ex-Fireman W. Hall and Foreman J. Williams; time-keepers, ex-Fireman W. Turreil and Mr R. Maclauchlan. Following are the results:— Two Men Flat—Sumner 33 (R. Clarke and J. O’Neil), 47sec, 1; Lyttelton B (W. Geayley and J. Jones) 2. Two-men Disabled Hose—Sumner C (J. and E. O’Neil), 46 l-ssec, 1; Lyttelton A (E. Sullivan and It. Mauldon), 51 Three-men Flat—Sumner A (R. Clarke, J. and E. O’Neil), 35 3-ssec, 1; Sumner E (M’Garry, Lawson and Clarke), 42 4-ssec, 2. Three-men Disabled Hose—Lyttelton A (A. Sullivan, R. Mauldon and J. Wyatt), 57sec, 1. The only team to finish, the others being beaten by the water. Five-men Disabled Hose Reel Event— Sumner A (Clarke, M’Garry, Lawson, J. and E. O’Neil), lmin 30sec. 1; Lyttelton 33 (A. Sullivan, J. Wyatt, R. Mauldon, J. Jones, A. Large), lmin 32sec, 2. A good run, with a close finish.
