Opera For The Provinces.

The cause of opera,—that is, the people’s love of opera—should be greatly strengthened by the fact that the directors of Covent Garden are to organise and finance a provincial tour by a British opera company. This will make up. for the loss to the provinces of the British National Opera Company, -Which U at last, after a gallant struggle, has had to confess that it no longer can face ■% the heavy cost of opera production. More than that, with Covent Garden’s great resources behind this scheme, it may be expected to grow to be a provision of enjoyable music which will cover a much wider area of the country than has hitherto been possible to touring companies.
